Inspirational documentary about traditional farming and the lessons learned
This was an excellent documentary. I watched it twice and bought it. A couple buy a farm and begin the 5-7 (?) years long process of creating a bio-diverse traditional farm.
Each pest and predator taught them lessons about how nature has its own solutions if you look closely. The snail problem that was ravaging the fruit trees was managed by getting ducks. The coyotes that could eat the ducks were managed by fencing and by getting new Great Pyrenees dogs to protect the birds. And so on and so on…
The traditional little farm proved to fare better during inclement weather conditions in California because the soil was healthier. The farms with monocultures did not do very well during poor weather conditions.
I recommend the film to anyone interested in learning more abut traditional farming or just interested in a good story. The couple went through some challenging times, lost loved ones, but created a successful little farm using common sense farming methods that are healthier for the soil and the humans eating the food.

This is such a wonderful DVD. I have watched it several times, and believe this should be shown in all schools, starting at least grade 10. It proves the importance of farming the land, as well as the symbiotic relationships between different living beings. No matter how big or small.
