Set in the year 2029 and following World Wars III and IV, a Japanese-led Asian block dominates world affairs. The alliance maintains its international supremacy through its elite security force whose cybernetically enhanced operatives tackle an array of hi-tech terrorists and other threats to international security. These augmented agents can “ghost hack” (i.e., download their consciousness) via the now omnipresent internet into other machines and human/machine cross breeds. Major Motoko Kusanagi, a cybernetically augmented female agent, has been tracking a virtual entity known as the Puppet Master with her crack squad of security agents. The shape-shifting Puppet Master, a rogue creation of a rival agency of the security apparatus, has concluded that it is a life form in its own right, “born in sea of information,” and requested political asylum and true physical existence in defiance of its creators.

Nice 4k
Movie arrived intact and played fine (I have only watched and am reviewing the 4k). The movie looked great in 4k. The Dolby Atmos was VERY good. I wasn’t expecting the DA to be so good ..they made good use of all the speakers.

Came as advertised.
The movie came in perfect condition and on time. I know others complained about the case being beat up/ damaged, but mine arrived without a scratch luckily, even if it camein loose plastic wrap that makes it seem as if it was opened once already. But no damage or wear and tear is noticeable (though I am slightly disappointed there’s no slip-cover nor is it steelbook as the picture makes it look, but I wasn’t expecting that after reading reviews anyway nor is it a big deal at this price). One review also said that the digital copy (luckily my codec wasn’t expired) was only in standard HD, but I can attest to that being false with mine being read as the UHD version (atleast redeemed through Vudu/ Fandango that is, no idea if Apple’s platform only has the HD version), so all is good there. All in all I’m VERY pleased to have gotten this on such a huge sale finally, and I can’t wait to watch it.I definitely recommend going for it (from Amazon directly anyway, no 3rd party sellers here going by some reviews) if you’re on the fence.

Lessons in Worldbuilding
First and foremost, the quality push to 4K looks and sounds like a modern animated film while still keeping the distinct style of an old future the film portrays. That being said, there is a heavy emphasis on environmental storytelling and philosophical speech that at some points, the main story just stops to take in the setting the characters inhabit. Came for the premise, stayed to look at the pretty imagery

I’ve already seen the movie, but I bought this for the cover box art,I had to take the time to look at,and examine the multi color layout, now to the movie,as eye popping as ever,it’s the same movie as the one I saw back when it was new. This box comes with 2 copies, one in blu-ray format, the other in 4K.If you want classic Japananimation this is it.

Packaging quality and disk quality could be better. I was worried that the disk would shatter in my ps5, luckily it didnât.Video quality seems to be okay, Iâm not an expert on Ghost in the Shell rereleases and after all it is an old movie.Content wise – movie is great and I really like the interview with creators.

I originally bought the 25th anniversary blu ray. After comparing the two you immediately notice the lack of noise/grain in the 4k release.First photo is 4k releaseSecond is 25th Anniversary bluray
