Eagerly awaiting part 2 on blu-ray
A fantasy anime that mixes high quality Shonen battle animation, a rich and detailed backstory to the world’s history nearly on par with Lord of the Rings and Tales of Earthsea, and a slice of life storytelling pace that assists in appreciating the daily going-ons in the world Frieren and their companions live and work in.
Since beginning my anime journey with Digimon Adventures in the 90s, many anime titles have come and gone – some worth remembering and rewatching; others forgotten due to the production team relying on troupes of the time regardless of how well animated it is. Yet, I found myself watching all 24 episodes 7 times over then reading the manga and comparing how different the translation from panels to frames can enhance a story or give a different feeling or approach. I have done this with Dungeon Meshi as well (here’s hoping to a US release soon).
This anime touched upon thoughts and feelings I hadn’t given time to explore much less appreciate – how important the bonds we form throughout our lives regardless how short the moment was, if it left an impression then it changed some part of you. Honestly it took a kuudere elf and her long but short lifetime of memories to help me slow and look around my surroundings and appreciate the people around me because life is a journey to create new bonds.

Really beautiful fantasy anime with lessons to teach and great friends to make.
Really great standout anime with a wonderful yet realistic fantasy setting. The characters are all very interesting and memorable, with Frieren, the 1000+ years young legendary mage who aided in the demon king’s defeat, taking the center stage on an entirely new journey as she struggles as we all do with contemplation of past memories and even friends who may no longer be with us.
It is a great story teaching us to live and not succumb to the curse that is “analysis paralysis” as Frieren suffers from in the beginning before being joined by a young girl and her soon-to-be apprentice, Fern. To quote Frieren herself: “Don’t dwell in the past when you have the present. Trust me.”

    Excellent.
Contains first 16 episodes of Season 1 (~1/2).
I fear the release of Season 1 Part 2 will be with held until a marketing decision to generate attention for the streaming release of Season 2- rumored to be early next year (almost 4 years after the initial release).

    A very well done anime.
This is an absolutely wonderful anime. It asks a question and answers it in Freiren’s journey after the Hero’s Quest is completed. It is a bittersweet first few episodes that are wonderfully made and the music score accompanying the show has, to me, a wonderful Celtic flair and tone. She grows as a character and her journey is joined by others that she meets along the way thanks to her aging companions from her past quest. I was able to get the soundtrack and I enjoy listening to the music on its own. I’m glad I purchased this one.

    Awesome, yet pricey
I love the addition of DVD format, as I do not own a Blu Ray. The menus while static are presented well, the encoding is not particularly bad considering the DVD format was not created in mind for an HD anime. Bonus features are nice as you’d expect. Just like the show, the outwardly presentation of the package feels modestly premium and elegant. Only downside is arguably the price for only half of one season, and questionable disc slots included in the case.

    Touching story.
It is a great story. It doesn’t have a lot of heavy action as most fantasy anime do. But it flows really well. Her sadness at not learning how much things meant until it is too late.

    Gracias y saludos.

If you’ve ever watched and enjoyed anime… this is for you. If you love fantasy film and world building – this is for you. If you love beautiful thought provoking epics – this is for you. Currently just shy of a 9 out of 10 with 100,000s votes on IMDB – this is an all time piece of entertainment and a top anime. Possibly the best … and the fact I can say that and not feel crazy – says a lot. Be warned this is not the whole season – because they love to squeeze every drop of money out of anime fans

This anime is an absolute masterpiece that beautifully balances deep emotional resonance with moments of genuine warmth and humour. If you’re a fan of anime that tugs at your heartstrings while exploring profound character growth, this is the perfect series for you.
The story begins where most adventures end—with the hero party’s triumphant return after defeating the Demon King. But instead of focusing on epic battles, Frieren shifts its attention to the aftermath, particularly the immortal elf mage Frieren, whose long lifespan sets her apart from her human companions. The anime captures the bittersweet reality of time’s passage, showing how fleeting mortal lives are compared to her eternal existence.
What sets Frieren apart is its focus on serious character development. Frieren starts as an aloof, almost detached protagonist, but as the series progresses, we witness her emotional growth as she begins to understand the value of the memories and relationships she has forged. The anime masterfully weaves this development into her journey of self-discovery, as she reflects on her past and builds new bonds with her companions.
The emotional attachment you’ll feel toward the characters is remarkable. Whether it’s through their quiet, reflective moments or heartfelt interactions, the anime ensures you’re deeply invested in their lives. The show’s pacing is deliberate, allowing the emotional weight of each scene to sink in. And when the tears come—and trust me, they will—they’re earned through poignant storytelling and beautifully crafted scenes.
Visually, the anime is stunning. The animation captures both the grandeur of the world and the intimacy of the characters’ emotions. The soundtrack further elevates the experience, with melodies that linger in your heart long after the episode ends.
Frieren isn’t just an anime—it’s a journey that will leave you reflecting on the passage of time, the importance of human connections, and the meaning of a life well-lived. If you’re looking for a show that makes you cry, laugh, and truly feel, then this anime is an absolute MUST WATCH.

This is an anime is about an elf that is outliving her old party members who saved the kingdom. This anime follows her life after their heroic adventure. Frieren confronts various thoughts about mortality while trying to honour her companions short lives. The anime is paced really well with a good blend of satisfying story and some epic action sprinkled in. If you like to care about the characters this will be an anime for you!

So I read the manga before I seen the anime, and it’s in my top 10 list of favourite manga, the story is amazing, great world building, great characters, a good magic system & extremely good villains, I absolutely love this writers take on demons. But more than likely if you’re buying this you’ve already seen it & just want to own it, so you know how good it is.
The only problem with this is that it’s not the full season, it’s only the first 16 episodes, I’m not a fan of how over the last few years they’re splitting the first season into separate Blurays, so you end up spending the same amount of money as a complete edition that usually comes with extra art books & posters just on regular editions.
This this come with 4 art cards (I’ve added pictures), and the outer box has a really nice rainbow effect to the front cover when you turn it in the light. So I’m happy to own it, just wish it was the complete first season.
