Simply amazing!
I can’t say too much about the original “Fantasia,” beyound the fact that it was very, very good. But now, more than 50 years later, and given the progress in animation technology & sound reproduction, what I can say is that this “Fantasia 2000” is simply amazing: great orchestral pieces performed beautifully, and animation that, as the beginning of the film makes clear, is so varied (from story telling to beautifully crafted abstract design-animation) and so masterfully and amazingly done! My very active 4 year old grandson and I sat perfectly still and absolutely transfixed for the whole one hour and 15 minute show. What more can I say: this whole film experience is simply and absolutely amazing!! It is exquisite and you will love it ⦠no matter what your age!

beautiful in sound and in vision
With one small flaw, this is a wonderful, relaxing and exciting series of animated vignettes set to classical music. The only segment repeated from the original 1940 Fantasia is Mickey Mouse in The Sorceror’s Apprentice. All the others are new and of inconsistent quality. Donald Duck is a Noah-esque hero set to Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance; butterflies dance to Beethoven’s 5th Symphony; whales fly as we hear Respighi’s Pines of Rome; Al Hirschfeld-esque drawings animate Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue; Saint-Saen’s Carnival of the Animals is accompanied by flamingos with a yo-yo; Nature battles destructive forces to Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite; and Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2 lends itself to a depiction of The Steadfast Tin Soldier. The only weakness is that there are short celebrity introductions which are entertaining but it would be nicer to be able to play the DVD without the interruptions, particularly if you’ve seen the disc more than a few times.
Extras include: narration or captioning in English or French; two commentary tracks that include comments by the executive producer, producer and conductor or each segment’s director and art director; a highlights program; a Making Of feature; and two 1953 cartoons that take place in a bird school and have to do with music (melody and rhythm).
This is a lovely dvd that will stand up to many viewings. Nice selection of animation and music. Very enjoyable indeed.

what i like about this movie before my dvd
when i was younger i used to have my vhs of this movie i recently got it from blockbuster back in the year november 14 2000 i got into Fantasia 2000 and the original Fantasia when my family relatives got me the original fantasia on vhs that has the end credits at the end of the original fantasia i talked about the begining and the end of the original fantasia and fantasia 2000 the original fantasia has been around for a long time since the 1940’s this movie has no talking but only classical music i popped in fantasia 2000 tape in the vcr and it got messed up the tape but now i have finally got the dvd and i am proud of and i hope i could get another copy of fantasia 2000 vhs tape at local flea markets goodwill stores or online or any one of them enjoy!!!
