Excellent documentary of score music and. . .
How it came to be written, and by who. . .almost a bit long, but great if you are interested in such things.

    Awesome.. Brings back amazing memories
This movie is like coming back home after a long time.. I had never been this upclose and personal with all the quintessential composers.. Yet to me being very familiar with all of these memorable pieces from top movies made it very enjoyable.
To see Abbey Road studio was incredible
There’s nothing like score music.. It’s epic, moving and tells the story of our lives with all of its glories and falls
    Highly recommended

Great documentary on the art of Movie scoring
Great documentary on the art of Movie scoring. I love this stuff, although I know not everyone does. It was disappointing only in the fact it was too short and I wanted it to cover so much more. But overall a really good film.

An Absolute Must For Movie Soundtrack Fans
The perfect sequel to a DVD called The Hollywood Sound. That film went from the early days of sound to about 1950. Score picks up at 1950 and continues to the present.
If you have any interest at all on how movie soundtracks are created, this should be your first stop. This is an exciting,
    informative, and well-made film.

A Great Inside Look into Film Music
Film music has been through many changes over the last century and it’s hard to cram all of those into just one documentary. This documentary does a fantastic job at showing highlights from film music’s history while giving you some looks into the modern film composer’s processes. This has quickly become one of my favorite music documentaries!

    Utterly Amazing!
Simply awe inspiring! This documentary is VERY well shot and edited! Then it goes without saying that it is long over due that we fans of film scores get that secret glimpse into the world of our favorite composers! Couldn’t ask for more….but I will, bring on “Score 2”!

    Wonderfully moving film.
Wonderful, moving and informative. It would have been nice to see more studio creative time and the roster of software, synths, instruments in the composer’s personal studios. I wish they would have include the composer James Newton Howard as well.

It was so interesting to see the real people behind the theme music. Obviously there were many omissions, but the comments were very varied, and as Hans Zimmer pointed out, if there was no theme music in films, then there would be less employment for orchestras. The technical equipment was so fascinating, and people expanded the boundaries of creating music. The themes we all recognise
    Jaws
    Psycho
    Star Wars
    American Beauty
were emphasised, and the creative input made so much difference to the mood and atmosphere of the film. I would have liked more examples, perhaps more music of the greats such as John Williams and John Barry. Many of the composers were unknown to me, but their music was just as exciting. I have always liked film music, and bought all the Classic FM At The Movies CDs years ago. I am sure that there is enough new films to produce another cd. Overall a very enjoyable DVD.

perfect film music documentary. Wonderful! Informative.
    Can recommend it.

An excellent documentary! I can’t believe how many well-known composers they interviewed / filmed for this, it was amazing putting faces to their wonderful scores. I was also impressed at the amount of well known and famous scores they featured and showed high quality movie clips from (Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, Lord Of The Rings, E.T. to name but a few) it definitely surpassed my expectations (I didn’t think it would have any due to rights etc). It was fascinating to see elements of what goes into creating scores from the development, recording, mixing process etc. I was in awe seeing the studios that some of my favourite movie scores were recorded in. If you love movie soundtracks like me you need to watch this documentary! Highly recommended 10/10!

  12. Musicman

This is a fascinating insight into the business of score writing and the impact of music on a film.

  13. John Joyce

A unique opportunity to see and (most importantly!) hear, how film music is created and performed by today’s top movie soundtrack composers. If you are a film buff, or a lover of exceptional music designed to invoke excitement, emotion, humour or pathos, the this DVD is for you!
