A wildly unbelievable film of really way-out circumstances in todayâs world. Directed by Lawrence Lamont and written by Syreeta Singleton, the film is filled with moments of fun humor and moments of wonderful chemistry between the two roomies played by Keke Palmer and SZA, but the story is trite and often very ridiculous.
The cinematography by Ava Berkofsky is crisp â but shaky at times â the editing by Tia Nolan was a little choppy during action sequences making the action slightly confusing and the music by Chanda Dancy was a little all over the place in its inconsistency and tone.
Itâs a very simple story of a girlsâ boyfriend taking her rent money, and her and her roommate race against the clock to avoid eviction and keep their friendship intact. Yawn. All been done before and definitely culturally shifted â I think it was trying to be a farse and except for the two leads and their chemistry, the film fell short for me.
The situations are unreal in the film. The reality of what these girls do reminded me of an attempt at a badly written and performed âLavern and Shirleyâ episode â if they ever made one of those â and they didnât. Just pass on this one.
